Sandra Khadhouri has worked in politics and strategic communications in conflict zones for many years on behalf of international organisations such as NATO, ICC, UN, EU, OSCE, IOM, AU and UK Govt. Sandra has also been a journalist, documentary-maker & author of a novel: Kabul Traffic.

Andrew Bruce

Foreign Policy Adviser & Electoral Expert

Andrew Bruce has a long career in foreign policy and democracy support for the EU, UN and OSCE, and a number of civil society organisations. He has managed the deployment of many election observation missions and written several publications. He now combines this work with teaching students at an inner-city school in South London.

Alex Hall Hall

Fmr UK Ambassador,
Democracy & Governance Adviser

Alex Hall Hall is a former British diplomat including posts as Ambassador to Georgia and Brexit counsellor in Washington. She is now a writer for the Byline Times, a Trustee at Eurasia Foundation, a Trustee at Europe Foundation Georgia, and a Member of the Commission on Political Reform. Alex has also been a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council.

Louise Harvey OBE MVO

Senior Public Affairs Practitioner;
Fmr President British Chamber of Commerce Brussels

Louise Harvey is a senior public affairs practitioner having worked for over 35 years for two international public affairs firms in London, Brussels and The Hague and co-founded what is now FTI Consulting, Brussels. She was the first female President of the British Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and is a former British diplomat with postings in Malaysia, Tanzania and The Hague.

Reza Afshar OBE

Reza Afshar is Executive Director of Independent Diplomat and a former diplomat at the UK FCDO and Ministry of Defence. Reza has extensive experience in international security, diplomacy and conflict resolution, notably in Syria, Afghanistan and Libya.

Laura Thornton

Snr Vice President for Democracy,
German Marshall Fund

Laura Thornton is Senior Vice President for Democracy at the German Marshall Fund, where she oversees the Alliance for Securing Democracy programme. Laura also served for over 20 years in leadership positions for the National Democratic Institute, working throughout Asia and the former Soviet Union.

Sharon Leclercq-Spooner

EU Policy & Trade Expert;
Board, Europe’s MediaLab

Sharon Leclercq-Spooner is an EU policy and trade expert with substantial board experience. She has spent 30 years in consultancies, trade associations, media and in-house corporate affairs. She is currently a senior adviser at EPPA in Brussels, and on steering groups for Women in Trade Network Brussels, Pro Europa, Borderlex and a High-Level Group on Trade Policy Innovation. Sharon is also active in many cross-stakeholder, cross-party and citizen efforts to improve understanding and functioning of the EU, and often engages in public speaking and debate moderation.

Jules Maaten

Jules Maaten is Regional Director of the European Dialogue Programme for Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), managing the Brussels, Madrid and Prague offices including projects in UK, France, Italy and Hungary. This follows several senior roles at FNF including Head of International Regions & Deputy Head of the International Department at FNF Headquarters in Potsdam; Regional Head of the Subsahara Africa Region in Johannesburg, and Country Director of FNF Philippines in Manila. From 1999 to 2009 he was a Member of the European Parliament, and from 1992-1999, Secretary General of the Liberal International based in London – the world federation of liberal and progressive democratic political parties.

Nele Fabian oversees all projects in FNF’s Brussels Office related to the economy, innovation and sustainability as well as the EU-UK relationship. Before this, Nele worked as an editor in interdisciplinary academic publishing. She holds a PhD in Modern Chinese History from Ruhr University as well as academic expertise in Social Science.

Jane Chablani

Stakeholder Engagement, London
Documentary Producer

Jane Chablani is an award-winning producer and director of documentary films for the BBC, Discovery Channel, Channel 4 and National Geographic. Her films cover a wide range of subjects from travelling through the Sahara  desert with Michael Palin to a ground-breaking legal case in art restitution. She has also served as a Trustee for Future Brilliance, an NGO promoting peace and stability in conflict zones such as Afghanistan. Originally from Canada, Jane now lives in London.

Simon Thomson 

Strategic Communications Adviser,
News & Documentary Producer

Simon Thomson is an award-winning correspondent, campaigner and parliamentary candidate. In recent years, Simon was head of international and regional media for the People’s Vote campaign for a second referendum on EU membership. He also reported for the BBC around the world, and produced acclaimed films for young people on European history. He is now a media trainer with clients in the business, charity and public sectors and also set up a European educational charity – Bridge International Dialogue.

Sarah Hearn

Professor in Global Governance, New York University

Sarah Hearn has been a professor at New York University’s Graduate School of Public Service for 12 years, teaching globalization and global governance. Sarah is also a consultant to international organizations and to the financial services industry. She has published reports and appeared on panels  for the OECD, UN and World Bank on making multilateralism work and the effects of populism on global institutions and developing nations. Prior to NYU, she worked for over a decade in the UK Government, including senior roles in DFID and FCDO. She was also seconded to roles as a Special Adviser at the UN and a Director of Programmes in NATO.
